West Campus Move-Out Stakeholder Meeting: October 30th

#1

Posting this note I received via email about an upcoming working group/brainstorming session to address move-in and move-out related topics.

"Good afternoon,

As you may know, a significant volume of material is abandoned on the curb or near dumpsters when students move in and out of apartments and houses in/near West Campus each year. Much of the material that is currently landfilled could be reused, and Austin Resource Recovery is exploring ways to move this material towards a higher-and-better use.

You have been identified as a neighborhood association or other influential community group in the West Campus area, so we hope you can join us for dinner and a collaborative discussion.

After receiving input from community members and seven other external stakeholder groups, the City plans to create a joint working group to implement a pilot next summer. Potential benefits for this project include:
· Moving material to benefit others in our local community
· Helping create a cleaner community
· Minimizing safety/health hazards (e.g. material in right-of-way, uncollected debris that attracts pests)
· Decreasing complaints in the area
· Increasing citywide diversion rate

Please pass the information below along to your membership list:

Are you a community member living in or near West Campus? Are you frustrated by the volume of material discarded by students during move out each year?

We want to hear from you! Join us for a free dinner and a brainstorming conversation to discuss West Campus move-out and move-in.
